Outdoor skills for kids
Grades K–5
An enrichment program where kids build real outdoor skills in small groups, with close guidance, and discover how capable they are.
What kids learn
Real skills, taught in the right order.
- Fire safety and fire making
- Safe carving and tool skills
- Shelter building
- Knots
- Plant identification
- Outdoor cooking
- Navigation
- Water
- Teamwork
Yes, that means children make fire with a ferro rod and carve with a fixed-blade, rounded-tip knife. Every skill is sequenced: kids first learn safety and how to use a tool, then move on to the next stage, and nobody touches a tool until they have shown they are ready for it.
A session
- 1Arrival and a warm-up game.
- 2Opening circle and the safety code.
- 3A short introduction to the day's skill.
- 4Hands-on practice, with an instructor within reach.
- 5A team challenge.
- 6Closing circle, skill cards and the field journal.

For your school
How it works, practically.
- Format
- After-school enrichment. Vacation weeks and summer programming on request.
- Term
- Six to eight week blocks, once a week.
- Session
- Sixty to ninety minutes at the end of the school day.
- Group
- Up to fourteen children with two instructors, seven to one.
- Grades
- K through 5, grouped by grade where numbers allow.
- Space
- An outdoor area on or near campus. A playground works; woods are better. An indoor room for dangerous weather.
- Weather
- We run in weather. High wind, lightning or dangerous cold moves the class inside.
- Enrollment and billing
- You list the program in your enrichment catalog and enroll families. We invoice the school per enrolled child.
- Paperwork
- We bring the waiver, the certificate of insurance naming your school, and the parent communication. You provide the roster and one contact.
- Where
- Greater Boston today, and new schools as we expand.
How we keep it safe
Two background-checked instructors for every group of up to fourteen children. Every lead instructor is first aid and CPR certified. Skills are staged and gated. Every tool is counted out and counted back in, and nothing goes home. We are fully insured, and your school has the certificate before the first class.
What families say
“This was by far Ava's favorite enrichment course this year, and it had a genuinely meaningful impact on her.”
